WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. I A THREE FARTHINGS RISE. Messrs E. Buxton and Co. Ltd., report on the first Wellington wool sales jheld on 13th inst., as follows: At the initial sale Of the season, held on Friday, 13th inst, a total Offering of about 1,500 bales, was catalqguett; . There was a very noticeable absenfce of the bright light I conditioned crossbreds which' have been a. feature of the November sales for the past few- seasons, and the i American buyers present found little [ or nothing- to satisfy their require- ; ments. The sale was characterised by spirited competition, chiefly from the Yorkshire section, and from the outset representatives from there bid strongly at prices which represent fully a rise of three farthi ings per lb on the rates lately ruling. Compared with- the November sale of last year we estimate that prices are lower T>y l*d to 2don; the betteir class wools, while inferior sorts afe still abouib M^ lower Taking a comparison with the" . prices ruling in London at the September sales it would appear that the. pri.ces. current at the Wellington sale are' quite within a farthing of late London . values. We quote the values .current as below: — . .-:..„. ' ■ Halfbred, medium ■. condition, 7Jd to 8d per lb ; inferoir, short and wasty, 6d to 6fd ; crossbred, light condition, 6£d to 7d ; medium condition 6d to 6Jd; wasty .and inferior 5d to 6|d ; coarse, fair" condition, sid to 6Jd; pieces, crossbred, "good, 2l to 3i ; wasty, 2^d- to. 3?, d; crutchings 2sd to 3Jd; locks 2d to 2id. , The next Wellington sales will be held on December 4th, 1908.
