Hineinoa, which arrived froui ttie Kermadeo Islands to-day, brought hack the scientifio expeditiontaat has for the past, ten months been carrying out investigation!) in that little known dependency of the Dominion. Ttie objects of the expedition were to study the animal and plant life, as well as the geological character of tbe Islands, and to take complnte meteorological observations. TLe memhera of the expedition have accomplished the main features of their programme, but owing to the unexpectedly early arrival of the Hinemoa have not completed maby of fcba details. The party consisted of Messrs T. Iredale. t). Warden and W. R. Oliver, of Christchurcb j W; L< i.Wallaoe. of Timaru ; and.SV X; Oliver, of Taur'aLga.- Mr Ifedale devoted himself priucipally to Dirds and shells; -The Messrs Oliver brothers took botaDy and geology. Mr Wallace took e'ntomolcgyj and Mr Warden, took niataqrol jgy. - The members of the jpar^ enjoyed .excelierit health -during their otay on the Islands, there being and thbj all express themselves well satisnea with the results of the expedition. They found all the t&inga i that they expeoteif to find, and also a number of things that they did not expect to discover. , There were daily excursions to 'the different parts of the main islands the weather permitted, and the'outside islands of the group wer visite"d when possible.
