CRICKET.

OLD BOYS V. NELSON. , TWO WICKETS FOB, 412. 209 NOT OUT AND 101 NOT OUT. The above match was commenced on No 1 wicket at the Park on Sat-' urday. Sandel won the toss from Saundera and sent Neale and Rich•nond to . the wickets shortly before 2.30. The wicket was somewhat .-.low and the batsmen were not at all comfortable, Richmond giving a possible chance in the slips and_ Neale i fairly easy one behind the wickets, both before' the batsmen, had broken the ice. Richmond was well caught at. mid wicket with the score at 16. McKay followed and with Neale added 132 for" the second wicket, before being bowled (in .trying to pull a . yorker) for 63. . He played very forcibly and hit two beautiful sixes and bhree fours. With the score at 148 Sandel filled the vacancy and at 6.15 Neale and 'he were still unbeaten and had added a further 264" for the third wicket. -Neale' s total included 6 hits for 6 and 18 fourcrs, and 3andel' s contained 8 f ourers. Except for the chance mentioned . above both innings were entirely .free from blemish and -when time was: called the rest of the team rushed the field to carry the two boys off, but the latter still had a little, "steam. left and gave their captors a good run. The innings lasted close on four hours, Neale being at iho wickets the whole time. ; "Sandel got in some .beautiful strokes; the cut and leg hit being very: prominent, his partners chief stroke being the straight drive .The previous highest total for sup matches was~ 321 mads •by College against kelson in "1890 (C. H. Broad 136, E. W. Broad 70) so that the record has stood almost the lifetime of the two chief contributors to the -total which displaced it. Saturday's game established several new records for Nelson as follows : — - . Record total (although only two wickets have fallen) 412. Record individual score, Neale 209 not out. Record two wicket stand, 132, Neale and McKay. Record- three wicket stand, 264, Neale and Sandel (still uncompleted) previous best Neale and Tendall, Nelson r. College 1905, 106. •Record- of two centuries on one side, Neale and Sandel. The Nelson fielding on Saturday, taken right through, was very good, and the players stuck to their task well indeed The rate of scoring may be judged from the fact that the innings, lasted, less than ■- four hours, which works out at orer 100 runs uer hour, and the total was scored from 70 overs, while College the previous Saturday on a scoring ground took 73 overs to produce 223. Athletic and Kamura on the No 2 wicket scored 208' in the same length of time. Of -the Nelson bowlers Louisson, Franklin and Ryan- were ■perhaps the best. • Tne scores are as follows : — OLD BOYS.
