SUNDAY SCHOOL 'ANNIVERSARY. Yasterday there were lirge oongre gations at St. John's Metbodist Uhurcb, when the servic s h the morning, • afternoon, and evening ' were in connection . with-the sixtysecon.i anniversary of the Sunday school. In tbe moraing the Key. C. £J. Garland preacbed an eloquent discourse based on the Saviour's commina"~ for the cbidran to be brought to him, and his putting; his bands upou them, and blessing them. In the afternoon the ReV Stanley Jenkin (Baptist) gave, an excellent address to the scholars on "Ambition," basing, his . remarks 6*oChrist's words/ "SacK ye iirst the Kingdom of God and his. righteousness, 'and all things shall be added, ' unto yp.n." In the evening every seat in the commodious building was occupied. Tbe Key..C. H. Garland preacbed from the text, "Work out your own salvalion.'' He dwelt upon grace being iecovved through faith* and x sms being, pardoned for, Christ's sake. He emphasised that sal vation meant oil that .the grace of God intended for ,a. human sour in tbiv development of character. -Tlie preacher earnestly exhorted the young ,people to work out £heir o vn 'salvation, in other. -words to win a : Christian character. .-. , The children were seated on a raised platform on each side of the minister's rostrum. At each service they sang a number, of special hymns, assisted by the Church choir* Mr A. V. Lucas being the conductor, and Miss Stevens tde organist. The -singing wate good, . and the bright and . Dappy appearacce of the 'children 'was most 'pleasing.'- in connpction with, the school there are 17 offioials and teachere, 228 scholars, and 79 On the cradle roll. Tne average attendance for; the past year was 144 scholars per Sunday. Tbe income for the year was £73 9s 9d, and the , expehditbre £65 2^ .id. : leaving a credit balance -of £8 7s sd. Last year "out of tha'incomH j£ls'H r a9 tranfferrfld to the builaing fund, ■• and. £12 10s. j devoted to the Home Missions fund. There-sis now .in hand towards the proposed new bbiiaing for the school £533 8s lOd, the fund having increased by £179 4? lid during the past twelve months..
