PUBLICHOUSE CENSUS.

Auckland, June 2. At a meeting of the Auckland Licensing Committee this afternoon a letter was read by the Chairman from Mr Leckie, giving the result of a census taken by the Young Men's No-Lioense Society respecting thirty city hotels, who were watched on Saturday, April 25, between the hours of 8 and 11 p.m. showing that during the hours in question 12,030 persons were seen to leave the hotels, 9692 of these being men, of whom 75 per cent were young men ; 456 women, and 86 children. The number of persons set down as Been "decidedly intoxicated" during this period was 204, the greater portion being young men.
