SUICIDES.
Oamaru, June 2. Yesterday John Nioholson, of Mabeno.a blacksmith and wheelwright, was found in a dying state in a shed near his house, with blood issuing from nis mouth, and a breechloader i beside him. He died this morning. [ The deceased was sixty years Of age, and some time ago be was confined in a mental hospital. Since he had regained his liberty be bad been despondent. There is little doubt that the case is one of suicide. Auckland, [June 2. The man Rees Williams, who committed suicide by jumping off a train at Ellerslie last evening, according to a certificate found on the body, had been admitted to the 1 Normal School at Christchurch on January, 1891, and passed a course of one year's training for teaching. i There was also in his pocket a letter [from the secretary 01 the North Canterbury Board of Education. Tbe pointsman at Ellerslie Station I stated at the inquest that he saw ! Williams, who was on the platform as the train waa passing, rush to tho edge of the platform. Witness seized Williams' coat, and a struggle en» sued, the coat coming off. Williams then tell under tne engine, and the tender passed over him. The jury returned a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane.
