COUNTRY NEWS.

T AKAKA . (Prom Our Own Corespondent.) A very sad and sudden death occurred here on Friday evening last, when the wife of Mr Walter Mookett died in giving birth to a child, the latter being dead also. Mr and Mrs Moekett vere a well-known young couple, and were universally liked and respeoted, and, in addition, Mrs Mockett's people (abe wa9 the eldest daughter of Mr J. D. Bensemann) all reside here, and are well known' and popular. The very sudden and unexpected death of, Mrs Moekett oast a gloom over the entire population of the district, and the depth of feeling and sympathy was markedly shown by the record attendance at the funoral, which took place on Sunday afternoon. Mr Moekett was a member of the Takaka Lodge of Druids, and the members turned out in strong force to take part in the last sad ceremony. Four Past Arch Druids composed the pall bearers, and the hearse was preceded by a large number of Druids in their mourning garb mounted on horseback. The procession was considerably over a mile long, and numbered pver a hundred vehioles and horse* men. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. Pepper, of the Church of England. The very deepest sympathy is everywhere expressed for the bereaved husband, and for his late wife's people. Mrs Mookett was herself very popular everywhere, and will be greatly missed. She was under thirty years of age, and leaves behind her, besides her husband, one little boy of about four years of age.
