AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.

New Plymouth, December 27. The seventh Championship Axemen's Carnival commenced at Elham yesterday, when tho're was a large attendance, over £200 being taken for the day. The results of the events were :— . Maiden Chop, 15 inch blocks, final : G. Murray 1. P. Domain 2, J. Hall 3.. Twenty-seven men competed. New Zealand Champion Chop, two feet, standing blocks : Esau Pretty, 1 ; G. Macauley 2 ; G. Morrison, 3 ; W. Schishka 4. Two others started. Time, 4mins 31 3-sth seca. Single Sawing Handicap: Harrnell, Ssecs, 1: O. Volzke, scr, 2; G. Morrison, 20aecs, 3. Eight competed. Large fields started in the cycling events. The principal race was won by A. E. Parkes, the scratch man. The weather was glorious to-day, and the attendance of the public was a record one. There were large entries for the Axemen's Cup of £140. West, of.Dannevirke, won the hnal in 2mins 7sees, with, a handicap of 40secs, after a git-eat struggle. G. 'Morrison, of was second': W. Schishka, of Raglan, was third; C. Hutton, of Taihape, ; was fourth; M. C. Anderson, fifth; G. McCauley, sixth; J. Jackson, seventh: and H. Egat, eighth. Time, 6mins 7 sees. , . World's Underhand Championship, 18in logs! Single Handed Saw Champion of New Zealand s 2f fc logs : J. Hartnett, Taihape, 1;W. Weston, Upper Hutt, 2 ; G. McCauley, Eltham, 3. Harnett put up the magnificent time of lmin 18secs, thus beating the New Zealand record of lmb. 18 2-3 th seca The record is subject to the wood beiner measured by the oHicials of the Association.
