MONTHLY MEETING.

•fhe usual monthly meeting of the Education Board was commenced yesterday, Present: Messrs Maginnity (Chairman), Shepherd, Munson, Baigent, Franklyn, Lock, Beuke and Smith* Tenders for painting Riwaka School were held over until to-day* Two tenders cf £10 each were received for tools and wood shed at Kiwi. The Committee wore authorised to accept one of them. A tender of £5 (from A. Walker) for ropairs to houso and fence at Capleston was accepted. Tho Waimangaroa Com mttee were authorised to accept A. West's tender £15 5s for painting interior of school, Mr C. Friend to supervise. No tenders were received for painting Foxhill School and for erecting picket fence at Tapawera. The sub-committee appointed to report on the question of Sherry and Wangapeka schools made the following recommendations : To meet the present pressing requirements and to provide for the seventeen children attending- tbe "household sohool at Mr Corrigan's homestead, we recommend (a) that the school be raised to the status of an aided sohool; (b) that the Board contribute a sura not exceeding £75 towards the erection of a building suitable for present^roquirements; (c) that thejbuildihg be erected upon the land of Mr Wattie or tbe land of Mr McPherson and near the latter's southern boundary, both of . whioh sites have frontages to the main road and both of which gentlemen signified their readiness to place two acres of land at the disposal of the Board free of coßt. The committee could not recommend any alteration in in view of the probable increased settlement in the southern part of tbe Skerry district which may affect the Sherry School, or render it desirable to | remove it to a position further south.

The report was adopted and copies ordered to be sent to*the petitioners.

The Chairman reported that a special enquiry into the management of the Technical School at Nelson had not been completed. The time for presentation of the report was extended for a month.

The Treasurer's statement revealed a credit balance on all accounts of £1493 17s 3d. The debit balance on general account was shown at £50S 2s Bd, and tbe. amount available en the building fund was £953. Tha building fund showed a total credit of £1972 4s sd. Resolved that . the whole of tho correspondence in connection with the W/estport Teobnical School be referred to Messrs Munson and Bailie to consult with Mr Colvin, M. P. The Lower Wakefield Comuuttoe reported adversely to the suggestion of the Department tbat Pigeon Valley •be made a side school to Wakefield. Resolved that a copy of the committee's report be forwarded to the Department. Messrs Bisley Bros, and, Co. forwarded account sales for sale of cottage next gaol s'to, which realised £21 lis not. A communication was received from the Stoka Committee reporting on the room offered for side school at Tahuna. — Left to Secretary to arrange for certain improvements. Resolved also that the Board adver* tise for a teacher. The Town -Committee forwarded latter from headmaster of Girl's School re proposed Honors Board. Members expressed sympathy witjj
