NELSON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A very fairly attended meeting was held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall last night with the object of reviving the Nelson Horticultural Society. Mr Bannehr was voted to the chair, arid he mentioned that at a speoial meeting of members cf the old Society it was resolved to hand over all assets on the re-establish-ment of the Society. A number of apologies were received from ladies and 'gentlemen who were unable to attend that even ing, but who deolared their interest in the movement. The names of several intending members were handed in, bringing, with those in the room, the number willing to join up to forty,' while the opinion was expressed that there would be no difficulty in securing considerably over a|hundred members. On the motion of Mr Webster, seconded by Mr Atniore. it was" resolved that the Horticultural Society be revived under its old name. On the motion of Mr M oiler, seconded by Mr Atmore, it was resolved that Mr Simpson be appointed Secretary. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Burford, seconded by Mr Atmore that that meeting, at its -rising be adjourned till Monday, 2nd September, when officers be elected and other business considered. On the motion of Mt Frank Hamilton, seconded by Mr Merrick, tbat all present endeavour to secure as many members as possible, and to ensure a large attendance at the adjourned meeting. Mr Moller moved, and Mr Hamilton seconded that a Spting Show be held about November next.— Carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr Atmore the members of the Old Society were thanked for their assistance in the revival of the Society. The Chairman said that as soon as it became evident that there was interest in the work of the Society the old members had met. He wished the Society a thoroughly successful career, and spoke of the importance to the district of fostering fruit production and of beautifying their surroundings, rendering them even more attractive. On the motion of Mr Burford, seconded by Mr Hamilton, it was resolved that members' tickets be; printed in readiness for issue at the adjourned meeting. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Simpson, seconded by Mr Webster that Messrs Bannehr, Burford, Moller, Merrick, Atmore, Allan, Simpson, Webster, Hamilton, Ho garth, Stringer, and Sheather be a committee to consider the old rules, and report thereon with recommendations to the adjourned meeting. The ordinary meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. ~ A meeting of the sub-committee was then held, when the rules were considered, and it was agreed to recommend certain alterations to rules three, six and seven.
