DUNEDIN ASSIZES.

Dunedin, August 19. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court commenced this morning, before Mr Justice Williams. A lad named Douglas McDonald Morris was ordered to come up for sen-, tence when called on for breaking and entering ; Francis Nolan received twelve months for stealing from the person ; Robert Thomson was ordered to come up for sentence when called on, while Carl Jacobsen was sentenced to one month ; W Daniel Callaghan to twelve months' imprisonment for broaching cargo. In tbe case of Jas. Wright Campbell, sixty-seven^ years of age, against whom there" were several charges of theft, etc., sentence was suspended to enable his Honor to consider which was best to be done. A charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm against James Russell, was under consideration when the Court rose. Other charges on the list are, arson against Thomas- Miller, and theft against John McMillan.
