Mr T. F. RyaD, one of the multimillionaires, has followed the example of Mr Carnegie, Mr Rockefeller, Mr Pierpont Morgan and Mr J. J. Hill, and has withdrawn from the turmoil of Wall street. He has resigned the personal management of the gigantic corporations which, itx his own words made him a slave for twenty-five yeara. He thinks himself lucky to have escaped alive. Mr Ryan is now fifty -six years of age. He started life as a bank clerk in a Baltimore shop, but being ambitious he obtained a situation with a firm of New York brokers. It was not very long before he was able to buy a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, and, with the assured position which this gave him, he soon became a secret power in the world of finance. He recently obtained an important trading concession in the Congo region, and it it said that he hopes to win a seat in the Senate. He says that the distribution of his wealth will keep him pretty fully employed for the rest of his life.
