Per United Press Association. Christchurch, August 15. The Grand National was continued at Riccarton to-day,under more favorable conditions than prevailed on Tuesday. The weather , though dull at, the start, cleared latei. on, dnd the afternoon turned out fine. The course was in capital order, and speculation was brisk, the investments totalling £20,887, showing an increase of £3314. The Grand National Hurdles proved an easy win for Shrapnel, who led practically the whole way, and est&blished a new record ior that race. The results were:— Hunt Club Cup, of lOOsovs. Sir James 1, Waihine 2, Albury 3. Also started—Craigmore, Rosemorn, Deer Slayer, Post Haste, Stormy Petrol, , nnd Purimu. Won by three leDgfcbs. Dividends, £5 4s 6d and £5 16s. Summer Handicap, of 100 soys: Fandango 1, Czar Kslohol 2, Outer . 3. Also started—llinupai, Ruapehu, Giovanni, Ancycle, Mangrove, West Wind, and Steplink. Won by a length and a half. Dividends, £12 2s and £1 7s 6d. August Handicap of 250 soys: Probable 1, De Witte 2, Waihuku 3. Also started: Helen Portland, Jolly Frair, St. Bill, Ivanoff, Eons, Tessera, Ingleneuk, Volodia, Blythemaid, Jolly Roger, Jack Ashore, and Heorfchen.
