MISS MURCUTT'S LECTURES.

There was a large attendance at the Theatre last night when Miss Murcutt gave an address on "National Righteousness." His Lordship the Bishop of Nelson presided, and the Rev. J. Crump gave the opening prayer. Miss Muroutt dealt forcibly with the opium trade and the liquor traffic, and told how these degrading businesses were lowering Christianity in the eyes of the people of India, China and Japan. She declared that during her sojournings in Japan she had never seen a drunken man. She dealt out a number of unpleasant truths regarding scenes she had seen in different parts of the British Empire, suoh being some of the fruits of the liquor traffic. She concluded by eloquently appealing to her audience to assist in removing the evils spoken about, thereby assisting to exalt tbe British nation commercially, morally, and spiritually, After votes of thanks were passed to Miss Murcutt and the Chairman, the Bishop pronounced the Benediction. To night Miss Murcutt will deliver the last lecture of hßr present series lat the Theatre, when she will speak on "Kussia and its Island prison, Saghalien. " Miss Murcutt "claims that she is the only British woman who has visited this Russian convict settlement, and no doubt she will hnve an interesting story to tell. Mr Johu Graham, M. H.R. will preside.
