THE NEW ZE ALAND PREMIER.

Received June 21, 6.58 p.m. Sydney, June 21. At the Town Hall the Lord-Mayor, on behalf of the New Zealand residents in Sydney, presented Sir J. Ward with a fine illuminated address, expressing satisfaction at his representation of New Zealand at the Imperial Conference. Sir J. Ward, in replying, indicated that as a result of an interview with Mr Carruthers, he believed that measures would shortly be taken to bring about closer relations between New South Wales 'and New Zealnd to their mutual advantage. Influential business men entertained Sir J. Ward at luncheon at the Hotel Australia. Colonel Burns, of Messrs Burns, Fhilp and Co., ocupied the chair, and he was supported by Mr Waddell, Chief Secretary, and Mr Meri vale, the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr French, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Mr Jackson, manager of the Union Company. Mr Waddell, in proposing Sir J. Ward'a health, congratulated their guest on the attitude he had adopted at the Oonerence. He considered his 'efforts were of so practical a character that great good must accrue, not merely to New Zealand but to the Commonwealth. Sir J. Ward, who was receiver! with enthusiasm, outlined the work done at the Conference, and predicted that excellent results would arise from the interchange of opinions. He congratulated New South Wales on the prosperity it was enjoying, and trusted tbat itf relationship" with New Zealand would shortly fee fttrtherjadvanced.
