HAWKEu'S BAY RACES. (Per United Press Association. ) Napier, June 20. The weather was again wet to-day for the second day of the Hawkeß' Bay Jockey '^Club's; winter meeting, and the attendance was in consequence only moderate. The racing was good. The sum of £7270 was pat through the totalisator, Staking a total of £15,318 for the two days, an increase of £1612 on last year's figures; Results:— Kidnappers Hack Hurdles: Pretty Maid 1, Oasis 2, Matakofeiri 3. Mounted Cadets. — Victoria has gone in for mounted oadet corps, The first parade of the first detachment of mounted cadets formed in Melbourne took place the other day. The detachment is only a nucleus, because the active steps leading up to the formation of the mounted cadets were only begun a few weeks ago, but in that short while more than half a squadron of juvenile warriors have come forward and taken the ''shilling," which, in this case, is a bond to abstain from smoking, bad language, and intoxi* eating liquors."
