FIRE, WAIMEA ROAD.
On the 3rd June, a little after eleven a.m., a lire broke out in a house on the Waimea Road, near Mr Houlkers' vinegar works, owned and occupied by Mr Noel Bray, and the house and its contents were completely destroyed. Prior to the outbreak a fire was burning or. i -. • hearth in the dining room an- ! '- Bray went into the garden to call her husband and when they returned the fire had so firm a hold that nothing could be saved. On the alarm being given the Fire Brigade mustered promptly, but, necessarily, some time elapsed before the firemen could reach the southern boundary of ; the town and when they got to work the water supply was very indifferent. The house, which at one time was owned' by the iate Mr Suhley contained two floors. It was inaured for .£l5O in the Norwich Union -Office, and the furniture, which was valued at £150, was insured in the game o sge for #50.
