NELSON BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of this Club was held at Messrs Rout and Sons rooms on June 12th, Dr Hamilton (the President) in the chair. In the unavoidable absence of the Hon. Secretary (Mr W. W. Clifford), the Hon. Treasurer (Mr P. Topliss) presented the report and balance-sheet. The report presented by the Committee stated that the number of members now stood at 95, an increase of nine during the season. Regret was expressed at the deaths of Mr John Tinline (a very old member of the Club), and Mr Alfred Carter (the latter although only a new member had taken a keen interest in the game, and was much liked). During the summer months play had been continued to a much later hour than bad been the case in former years, the result being that in conjunction with the close proximity of the Green to the city, several business men had joined the Club. Owing to the death of Mr W.Grny. the Club was at present not represenfcod oh the Northern Bowling Association. Pleasure was expressed at the receipt of a letter from the Secretary of the Motueka iio vling Club, advising the formation of a Club at Motueka, an:l a hopo was expressed that when the members of the Eewly - formed Club visited Nelson they would visit tho Nelson Gveen. The report concluded by thanking Mr Littlejohn for his kindness in taking the levels of the Green ; the ladies who so kindly supplied afternoon tea: the 1 local newspapers for publishing repjrts of matches, and the Secretary and Treasurer for their services, The balance-sheel showed that expenditure had been heavier than in the previous year, increased rent for the larger area of ground occupied and repairs being responsible for this result. The accounts, howRver, showed a very satisfactory financial position, assets exceeding liabilities by £181 after depreciating the value of lease for the expired portion of term. The President made a few remarks Gn the report, in which be expressed the opinion that it would have besn batter for bowling a3 a sport if the Maitai Club had been more successful in the pennant matches. The report ttnd balance-sheet wore duly adopted. I A discussion took place on the subject of paying prize money out of the Club funds, and eventually i it was dcci '.k,l that no prize money should be paid out of Club funds, but that an adequate entrance fee be c char fe ed to cover the cost of first and second prizes for the Sonior and Junior Championships. It was resolved that the subsoription for resident commercial travellers be one guinea jthafc for nonresident commercial travellers is half a guinea)Uaptam S. V. Haybittlo) notified that the 1908 Inter-Club Tournament would be held in Auckland, starting on either January 6th or 13th, and he hoped to see both Nelson Clubs thereat. Incidentally, during a discussion on the caretaker's salary, it was stated by Mr Littlejohn, who had taken the levels on the Green, that it was almost perfectly level and altogether a splendid Green. He stated that it was the opinion of many visitors that it was the best Green in New Zealand. Mr R. B. Jackson said it was better than any Green he had seen in Australia. It was decided to increase the caretaker's salary by £5. The election of officers resulted as folio vs:— President: Mr E. E. Trask ;. Vice-President : Mr E. Si Creswell ; Hon. Secretary . Mr W. W.
