London, June Is. In the House of Lords, Lord Belper, with a view to co-option instead of election, moved to refer the Women Councillors Bill to a select committee. The intervention of Lord Milner saved tbe Bill, and the debate was adjournod to enable the Government t~> furnish certain statistics, Canada's manufactures last year were vAlued at £143,000,000, compared with £95,289,000 in 1891. Tbe New Zealand bowlers beat Carlisle by 56 to 24, and Sunderland by 49 to 48. The Lord Chamberlain has withdrawn tbe prohibition against the opera "The Mikado." Paris, June 18. Owing to the untrustworthiness of regiments in the four disturbed provinces, the Government is replacing them with several better disciplined troops. Bombay, June 18 Di Nauth, editor of the newspaper 'Hindustan," has been arrested for sedition. Pretoria, June 18. In the Council, Sir George Farrar denounced the loan guarantee as a fresh instance of Downing Street interference in the domestic concerns of the Transvaal, and taking the vital question of labor out of the Transvaal's hands. He added that the Government policy respecting an increased [supply of natives was merely a policy of pious hopes in the teeth of the findings of many Commissions. There were signs that it was the Government's intention to cancel the debts of repatriated burghers, while leaders in Orangia would unite Jn hinting an intention to repudiate all liability on behalf of Orange Colony. Sir Georee censured Mr Botha for breaking his promise to protect the mining interests.
