MISSING BALLOONISTS.

London, May 31. A war balloon containing Lieutenants Cauliield and Leak, of the Royal Engineers, both Bkilled aeronauts, ascended at Alderahot on. Tuesday, and were missing until Thursday, when the balloon was picked up empty by a fishing smack near Esmouth. Later. A wireless telegram from Scilly Isles reported that the balloonists were safe; but later advices show ttiat the message had been misread, the words "balloon safe" being translated as "balloonists safe." Received June 1, 6.38 p ( m. June 1. The balloon officers' log shows that they were aware of Iheir close proximity to the sea. Their last entry was made 8.16, at a height of one hundred feet, when the anchor was trailing.
