NELSON AMATEUR OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY.
A general meeting of members of f)3 above Society was held at Mercer's Rooms last evening whoa there was a very targe attendance of mem bars. Mr J. IJ. Finney ocoupied the chair. The following new members were elected: Misses Cohen, de Castro, Messrs Reid, Packard, H. Hamilton, Oleland and H. W. Roberts. It was reported that there were now fifty active members of the Society but there were still a few vacancies. After a short discussion it was unanimously decided to produce flanquette's opera "Les Cloches de Uorneville" in about three months' time. A letter was read from the Dunedin Operatic Society offering the wardrobe and properties Tof this opera at a price that was considered satisfactory. It was stated that the dresses were practicality new and had been procured at great expense for the production at Dunedin. It was decided to accept the offer of Mr Alfred Ingleson, the wellknown scenic artist, to paint new scenery for the opera. Herr Lemmer was appointed conductor, and arrangements were made in regard to a stage manager. It was resolved that Wednesday evenings be the practice nights, and a aub-uommittee was appointed to make arrangements for a hall to practice in. A most enthusiastic meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
