CANTERBURY LIVE STOCK MARKET.

( Per United Press Association. ) I Christchurch, May 1. At the Addington live stock market to-day there were fairly large entries of stock and a good attendance of buyers. There was practically eo change in fat cattle. Store sheep again sold well as did lambs prime sorts being very firm. Pigs were rather easier. There was a; dull sale for store cattle, but dairy j cows sold well. There was a good mixed yarding of store sheep forward lambs, good | breeding ewes, and wethers selling well. There was also an improvement in the price of backward lots. The yarding of fat lambs was a fairly large one, and there was a good proportion of prime lots The competition among the export buyers was fairly Keen, and prime lines in their prices again showed an advance, while there was little change in others. Tegs made 18s to 21s fid ; standard weights 14s 6d to 17s 9d : lighter 12s 3d to 14s. There was an average yarding of fat sheep in point of numbers, and it included some prime lines of both wethers and ewes. Prime wethers were in keen demand, as were all classes "of ewes, and prices ware firmer all round. The range of prices was: Prime wethers 19s 6d to 23a 6d, extra 26s 6d to 38s, lighter 16s 2d to 19s ; prime ewes 17s 6d to 21s 3d, medium 14s 6d to 17s, aged lie to 14s. The entry of fat cattle totalled 240, the bulk being not more than three parts fat. Anything prime sold well, and fully equal to the previous .week's ratea. Steers made £5 7s 6d to £10, heifers £4 5s to £9 10s, and cuws £4 to £8 15s ; equal to 22s 6d to 25s for prime, and 20s and 22s for ordinary per lOOlbs. There was a fair entry of store cattle, but -no demand, and the sales were confined chiefly to a few calves and potters. Good dairy cows sold well, the top price being £8 10s. There Was" a fairly large yarding of piga, baebners and porkerß being rather easier, while there was less demand for stores, which were mostly small sorts. Baconers r made 45s tc 50s, and up to 55s for heavy weights, equal to 4^d per lb. Porkers fetched 25s to 28s, equal to 4^d to 5d pei lb. Large stores realised 18s to 22e 6d, medium 12s 6d to 17s 6d, and weaners 8s to 12s.
