SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
.Per United Press Association. Gisborne, March 1 About forty summonses have been j issued against the [local slaughtermen for breach of award by striking. The Arbitation Court is expected to sit in a fortnight's time. Uhriatchurch, March 1 Z Speaking tc-day at the luncheon given by the proprietor of the "Lyttelton Times" and "Press" to the members of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association at present in Christchurch, tne Hon W HallJones, the Acting-Premier, said: The Arbitration Act had not failed. The Act was as strong as the Government could wish it to be. The only thing that had failed had been that those who should have taken advantage of the provisions of the Act had not done so. The Government realised their responsibiity in the present position of affairs. They realised that the law in all its integrity must be sustained, and those powers which existed for the enforcement of the law must bo enforced.
