FIBE AT BISHOPDALE.

HOUSE AND CONTENTS DESTROYED. About half-past; one o'clock yesterday morning Constable Kelly sounded the alarm on tnt/ Central Station Hrebell, a big glare showing that a fire was in progress in the vicinity of Bishopdale. The Fire Brigade turned out with its usual prompfcitnde, but, unfortunately, after travelling so far, could not render any service, es locality of the fire, which is^at the town^boundary, was too distant^from a fire plug. The site of tb^e fire was a sixroomed house at Bishopdale owned by Mrs York, and occupied by Mr Joseph Morris. Mrs Morris is absent from Nelson spending a holiday, and Mr Morris was the only occupant of the house. He reached home about half past ton o'clock on Saturday evening, and lit a fire in the front room. He retired about midnight, leaving the iire burning, and there was some wood for kindling a fire left on, the hearthstone. He slept in the next" room, and was awakened about 1.30 a.m by tits glare of fire, and to find that the whole house wns ablaze, and he had timo to save only ! his clothes and a box containing some bedding and an empty portmanteau. With these exemptions both house and contents were completely destroyed. j Mr Morris had his furniture insured for £100 in the South British office, and estimates his loss at fully £20 above the insurance. The building was insured in the Sun Fire office, but the amount waa not ns;ertninable.
