YOUING MENS' CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.

The meeting convened for the pur^ pose of the formation of a branch of the above named Association in Nelson, was attended by between sixty and seventy young men in tne Bishop's Schoolroom last evening. The Rev C H Garland was voted to the chair. The Rev J H MacKeuzie gave the opening prayer. The Chairman, in stating the dbjeet of the meeting, spoke of the Y. M. O.A. movement as being world endorsed, and noted that the Emperor of Japan had recently eiven five thousand dollars to its funds in recognition of the splendid work done by sbmo of its members on the battlefields of Manchuria, Mr Hurst eubmittted the constitution of the Association, as showing the relative conditions as to active, associate, and honorary members. The Chairman pointed out that smno of the Churches had societies connected with them carrying out some of the functions of a Y.M.O.A. Uothought these societies should be morged into the Y. M.C. A. when formnd.> An invitation was then given to those prosont to^haud in their names if willing- to beccmib niemhors of a Y.M.C*:A: Twenty seven gave in thoiv names willing to become active members; soven as willing to bocoine associate members; and ono as an honorary member; making a totnl of thirty-five, which was considered satisfactory as a start. Mr Norman Wobley was chosen Secretary pro tenis Messrs Ninnis, McLonn, Rolton, K Lucas, Milligan and N Wobley wore set. up na aCommittoe to canvas for additional members. Messrs Wallace Snodgrnss, Edmonds, Knapp, Page, Piper, T Field, T Pettit, with power to add, were set up as a committeo of enquiry, to make inquiries as to tho trust funds in hand, and' to gather all information necessary for the successful starting of the Association. A vote of thanks was accorded by acclamation 'to Messrs Hurst and Norman Webley for the active interest they had displayed in starting the present movement for an Association in Nelson. It was decided that a meeting be called not later than a month nonce, when it is proposed to elect, the officers and committee of management. The meeting closed with the Bone diction being pronounced.
