MONTHLY MEETING The usual monthly meeting of the kelson Land Board was held yesteriay. Present : Messrs P W Flanagan ; Commissioner of Crown Lands, in ;he chair), Lynch, Wratfc, Walker, uid Sinclair. Minutes were read and confirmed. Applicalions for cash lands were iealt witb as follows:— M Lytzsen, 3ection 118. block vii, Kawatiri, under section 114 Land Act, 1892, adjourned to meeting to be held at Westport on March 8: J O 'Regan, 3ection 227, block vii, Reefton* do, declined, tlm section., being held under piiiunal license by J Whitigke; F S Salisbury, 50 acres, block xii, Mount Arthur, price 6s per acre, granted, subject to survey regulations; J Wall, 5 acres, block iii, Steeples, under section 114 Land Act, 1892,? declined, it being intended to recommend the reservation of this section. Applications for leases in perpetuity :-F Gill and J Egan, 500 acres, block x, Oparara, price 14s 9d per acres, postponed till report of the Ranger is received ; A S Percival, 250 acres, block xv, Tadmor, price 7s per acre, granted, excluding 25 acres recommended to be set apart as stock reserve, and that survey fees be dispensed with under Land Act Amendment Act, 1895; M Corby, section 93, block xv, Mokihinui, 100 acres, for exchange from M D L O lease, declined, there being no provision for the exchange under the Land Act; T Hampson, section 3, block xiii, Reafton, 49 acres, M Hampson, section 3, block xiii, 49 acres, postponed to meeting to be held at Reef ton on 13th March ; O Lynch, 159 acres, Tutaki, for exchange from pastoral license under regulations 4th September, 19O4.adjourned with the recommendations that the survey be made as soon as possible; J Bunting, junr, section 13, block vi, Tutaki ,300 acres, resolved that applicant be informed [that the landig not open at present, and the Warden be asked to release it for settlement ;AL Harvey, section 117, block vii,Kawatiri, 80 acres under section, 114, Land Act, 1892 (letter from W T Slee, referring to J Colvin^l application for this section), adjourned to Westport meeting ; David McKee Wright, sections, 14, 16, block vi, Wangapeka, 219 acres 2 roods, granted ; Chris Howes, section 1, block viii, Totaranui, and section 21, block . iv, Takaka, declined, thb application being informal. Applications for pastoral licenses under regulations Bth September, 1904, were dealt with as follows:— T R Watson, 430 vac res, block iii and iv, Waitaliu, adjourned to Reefton meeting; J McDavitt, 200 aces, block i, Steeples, already applied for by J Smith, adjourned to Westport meeting ; J Thornton, 30 acres, Upper Matakitaki, resolved that applicant be informed that when the plan of available land in that district is published he can then apply; B Wright, 210 acres, block iii, Steeples, objection by Warden, refused;! S Smith, 300 acres, block i and iii, Steeples, ditto, adjourned to Westport meeting ; W J Lester, 200 acres, block ix, Tutaki, granted, rent 9d per acre ; D O'Neill, section 21, block iv, Kawatirl, 55a 2r 12p resolvbd that the Warden be asked to reconsider his objection for a pastoral license being granted: E Griffiths, section 16, block vi, Ngakawau, 90 acres, granted, rent 7J£d per acre; M E Wisby, S9ction 2, block xii, Mawheraiti, declined, applicant to be referred to previous de cision of Board. Applications for occupation licenses were dealt with as follows:— J Billet, 100 acres, blodk ii, Waitahu, adjourned for advertisement, to Reefton meeting; M A Pearce, Perry Reserve, block ii, Ohika, objection by G lirooby, adjourned to Westport meetin; A Smith, 2500 acres, blocks v. and ix, Maruia, granted, rent 3^d per acre: T Quinn, 5 acres, block xi, Mokihinui, public road, refused : A Mcllardy, ovei river reserve. Jlluckwater Creek, Little Grey, refused ; G A Puklowski, and C B ana P., Hope Reserve, section 5, block vii, -Whangamoa, granted, rent £1 per annum ; E 2 Issell, 400 acres, block i, Waitakere, granted, rent £2 per annum ; R McGrath, 150 acres*" block i, Steeples, granted, rent £1 per annum ; W E McLean, school site, 18 acres, block viii, Matiri, granted, rent £1 per annum. E and J Griffith's application foi flax license over flax on beach from Waimangoroi river to Mokihinui river, and Gentle Annie hill, north of Mokihinui river, was adjourned to Westport meeting, an objection having been lodged by Mr P Bird. J Bassett's application for lease of reserve, section 103, block i, Waitapu (Parapara) was referred to Warden. Applications for Reserves: — Letter was read from Messrs Lammas and O'Rourke, requesting that the area marked on Stock Reserve, comprising 32 acres, block xiv, Matiri, may be added to their L.I. P. holdings of 354 acres and 340 acres, block ix, adjoining the said reserve. Resolved, that the request cannot be acceded to, as the land will probably be required for a stock reserve; Mr J Parthouse also wrote requesting that the stock reserve situated in front of his L. 1. P., 680 acres, blocks ii and vi.Motupiko, may be added to lease. Resolved, that applicant be offered a temporary occupation license over part of the reserve at a rental of £2 per annum. Timber reserve, section 1, block i, Reefton : Reports were received from the Crown Lands Rangers as to the desirableness of increasing the area of the above reserve. Resolved, that the area of the reserve be extended to the line recommended by Ranger Westley, as marked in plan attached to his report. Scenic reserves: A petition was received from M9ssrs J Hudson and M and H Jones, requesting that the two scenic reserves situate in blocks iv and viii, Howard Survey District, adjoining the holdings "of petitionrs, may be removed to the jnnction of the section's, so as to make one scenic reserve ooly. Reports from District Surveyor attached. Besolved to recommend the Minister of Lands to allow the adjoining settlers to acquire the scenic reserves in question under sections 114 and 240 of the Land! Act,;i962; application by Mr P Higgins to purchase section 23, block ii, Gordon, marked on map as timber reserve, in order to improve his fencing boundary. Resolved, tbjrt the Minister of Lands be recommended to opea the section specified for -settlement, there being no milling timber thereon, the sec tioo to be discharged from reservation under section 240. A letter was received from W M R and W A G^bbs, applying for exemption from residence on small grazing runs Nos, 5 and 6, blocks v and ix, Gordon, held by them. Resolved, that consideration of request be postponed until report is received from Ranger as to improvements effected. Applications for issue of Crown grant under section 149 of the Land Act, 1892, were Jdealt with as j follows: H G Wilkinson, cash land, sections 12 and 15, Block 16. Tadmor, 710 acres, granted, the necessary improvements having been effected ; E White, see 29, block 16, Mount Arthur, resolved that authority for the issue of Crown grant cannot be given until amended legislation is passed. On application by Messrs J Davis and R Currin to ■ have sec 11, block 9, Aorere, thrown open for selection, it was resolved to recommend that the section be thrown open under sec 121 of Land Act, 1892, capital value 10s per acre. Resolved that District Surveyor. Westport, be asked to conduct the auction sale of allotments at Westport on March 13tb, 1907. Resolved that the surrender of J Fawcetts lease, sec 2, block 15, Tadmor, LIP, be accepted, and the land re-opened under LIP and

i under the Biish and Swamp Crcwn I Lands Settlement Act as light bush, I capital value 7s 6d per acre. £The question of proposed forest reserves in blooks 1 4, Kaiteriteri, blocks 4 and 8, Takaka, and block 8, Totaranui, were postponed until April meeting of Board. Messrs Adams and Barley applied to the Board on behalf of the Trustees in the estate of the late John Kerr for sanction to transfer certain leasehold land (portion of the Lake Station). Application was refused, as purchaser is unable to comply with the provision of sec 96 of the Land Act, 1892.
