CORRESPONDENCE, j While desirous to give publicity to ' the discussion of matters of. public interest, we are not necessarily lo be identified with the opinions of our coiresj)ondents. Correspondents must write on one side of the paper only. Rejected manuscript will not be returned. To the Editob. Sir,— l see thatthe Nelson Cricket Association is unable to raise a representative team to visit Motueka. I should imagine that our fellow - players across the Bay will not think altogether nice things of us, after the local Association having made definite arrangements for the game. Surely it was unwise of the Nelson people to accept a challenge for this time of the year without first ascer taining whether a team could be got together. I have no doubt that the Motueka Association has been put to considerable expense and -inconvenience through the failure of the Nelson men to fulfil their engage-*, ment. I think we should make a great effort to get a team over at Easter time, when players will have more time to themselves. The game should be an annual one, and every endeavor should be made to keep it up. It is always a pleasant outing for the visiting team, more especially so for the Nelson team, as I have no hesitation in saying tbat our men are always treated ih a far more handsome manner at Motueka than the Bay men are here. I trust thatthe Nelson Association will, as I have suggested above, try to send a team across at Easter. Yours, etc., "A PLAYER." Nelson, 14th Feb., 1907. A BRITISH MINISTER SEES THINGS FOR HIMSELF, One never knows exactly where Mr John Burns will turn up next (says the "Tribune"). A few days ago Jae was engaged in rescuing some children from a watery grave. The other night he was at a fire in the Clapham road. "Last night, " writes a "Tribune" -representative, "I saw the right hon. gentleman in the House of Commons at half -past ten, and again at one o'clock this morning I came across him on the Embankment adjacent.to Charing Cross bridge. The Cabinet Minister was scarcely recognisable, though he bad but . turned, up his , coat collar. He had been maiKing a .round pf visits to Salvation ahd Church Army shelters, and he was at this moment about to . mingle' iri the wretched crowd that: nightly gather's at the Salvation Army . rendezvous under Charing Cross bridge. Mr Burns believes in what he sees with his own eyes, and he fully realises that he mnst see much ih this way if he is to deal effectively with 4he derelicts of our social system. While Mr Burns stood unobserved among the err •• • p. tramcar drew up, apd the rigut i..a. gentleman bad the satisfaction of seeing the conductor refuse to allow an intoxicated man to proceed as a passenger, As the car moved off one Of the passengers caught sight of yMr Burns, and remarked to the company, 'Why, there's John Burns. He's out lookin after things. That's the sort of man to have about' — and the observation evidently voiced the general sentiment." t . - ■ i ~■ n" Daily Coach Service!.
