DRAINAGE COMMITTEE

A special meeting of the Coy nei 1, 3 sitting as a Drainage Committee, . was held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Piper), and Councilors Lightband, Harrii acm-. The Finance Committee thought ' that if the Band charged more than ' a shilling for adults and half price for ohildren they themselves sbould be charged extra. o G_ Atmdre liiovdd that in the event bf the Band charging a shilling for entrance— the Band to have the fight to charge' extra for sedts— and half .price for' children, that they b_ required to pay three .guineas for use of, the groundj and to pay the fcost of barricading the. street, and that if; the Band; charged more than R shilling tb£y tie required to pay ten guineas and cost of barricading. Cr Lightband moved that they charge five per cent on7the receipts. 3 ; Cr Hounsell seconded Cr Atmore's r motion* but Cr Lightband 's proposal met with no secondon Cr Harrison then moved an a mend ment tbat the charge be three guineas if one shilling, with children half price, was fixed for admission, with extra charge for seats, and that in the event of the charge being higher the Band be required to pay five per cent on the gate takings j the Band to pay for cost of barricades. Cr flounsieli seconded the amendi ment pro forma, but urged that this plan would necessitate their employing people at the gates. .
