FRANCE AND THE CHURCH
Paris, January 1 Many French communes are asking nominal rents from priests for manses. In one instance only one franc per annum is charged. The French Bishops have unanimously decided that all contributions of tbe faithful must be handed to the Bisnops, who alone will distribute them. The Bishops have also forbidden parishioners to furnish priests or curates with stipends. The decision causes irritation.
