RICHMOND.
(From Our Own Correspondent), J THE PIRATES OP PEN^ANCE.. On Thursday evening last, at the Oddfellows' ..Hnll, Richmond, the comic opera "The Pirates of Penzance," was repeated in aid of the funds of the Cricket Club. Tbc hall was well rilled, and the entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by aD appreciative audience. The performance went with a swing, and encores were .frequent. Mrs May, as Kutb, sang well, and was the reci pient of two beautiful houquets, and Miss Gilbert, as Mabel, again acte and sang splendidly. The other characters wero all well sustained. At the conclusion of the performance Mr J. O'Connor, on behalf of the performers, presented Mrs May with a silver cake stand, and in making the presentation spoke of the pleasure they had all derived from the practices and performances. Mr May replied for Mrs May. and cheers were given for Mr and Mrs May, the orchestra, Mr Webb (the conductor), Mis 3 Pike (pianist), M> Wanstall (the
scenic artist), the Press, and the I ' Pirates" and tne ladies. >'\ The opera will probably be staged in Nelson at an early datS.
