Wellington, October 18. Id connection with the death of Mr Rose, Chief Inspector of Post Offices and Assistant Secretary, it is understood that Mr D. Robertson, chief clerk, willjbe appointed Assistant Secretary, and Mr D. dimming, Auckland. Is spoken of ac likely to be appointed Uhief Inspector. Mr F. V. HAWKES' BAY AGRICULTURAL SHOW. Napier, October 18. The Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show was concluded to day. The weather was beautifully tine, and there was a record attendance, it being estimated that about ten thousand were present. In the pig classes, E. White vyon both Championships for Yorkshires and the Championship for Tam worth boar; Ambrose Wellwood won the Championshpi for Tamworth sow ; C. Cammock that for Berkshire boar ; and Slack Bros, for Berkshire sow. The points prizes were won as under:— Most points in cattle, Mount Herbert Estate; dairy cattle, Slack Bros; Lincoln sheep, T. Tanner; Border Leiesters, Elon. J. D. Ormond; Romney Marsh, E. Short; Shropshire Downs, Nelson Bros. ; South Downs, Nelson Bros. : Crossbreds, Nelson Bros. ; fat sheep, Nelson Bros. ; farmers' classes, Thompson Bros. ; pigs, E. White; poultry, A. L. Ellingham : and Maori exhibits, Mr Taranaki K. Te Uru. The results of the competitions were : — Ladies Jumping: Miss Reynold's King Jimmy 1; Mrs H. *T. F. Carlyon's Hauraungi 2: Miss E.
