Sir John Foirest prepared an esti- . mate showing the saving which vvnld be effected by the year 1952, h'-ri tbe whole of the existing State loans woQld have matured. The caculation is based on the belief that the Commonwealth could float loans a quarter per cent better terms than the States. The total amount of the existing debts is two hundred and thisty-six millions six hundred and eighty thousand pounds, and in the period mentioned tbe saving would amount to just under sixteen millions sterling.
