THE LAND BILL.
The first meeting of the Lands Committee was held this morning to consder the Government's new and important Land Bill. The meeting lasted throughout the morning. It is understood that the Bill affects the bonds of certain local bodies, and that evidence on this point may be submitted at to-morrow morning's sitting of the Committee. There ware rumors about the lobby this afternoon that the Bill will have a stormy passage through the Committee. Only the first clause (The Short Title) of the Bill was carried this morning, and rumor has it that the adjournment till the next day was carried against the wish of the Minister. This morning's meeting is reported to have been any. thing but peaceful in its nature.
