DEATH OF AN IMMIGRANT.

UNABLE TO FIND EMPLOYMENT. nhristchurch, August 27. The body found last Monday at. Dyer's Pass has been identified as | that of William Bridges, an unmarried man, between 30 and 35 years of age. He came to the Colony from England in January by a ShawSavill boat, and had resided with j Mr Setiib, boarding-house keeper, aince the beginning of the year until about five weeks ago. Semb states that Bridges was a quiet man, of abstemious habits, who had come out to the Colony with a mate, whom he left in Auckland. He was an assistant locomotive fitter by trade, and could not obtain work in the branch of his trade, as all between firstclass fitter and laborer failed to secure employment. His money began to ebb until every penny of £30 with which he had landed disappeared. He pawned his watch and sold all r his clothes, excepting what he wore, and he set off for Dunedin with the intention of looking for work there. He had apparently no mental trouble, but was reserved, and spent hours in his room writing to his relatives in Derbyshire. He always paid his way, and had stated that he was not an assistedlmmigrant, but had paid his own passage. The body was identified by a photograph.
