JAPANESE FAMINE.
Reuter's ageny is informed that the Japanese Embassy has just received information to the effect that the distressing situation created bj the famine in the northern part of Japan is being ameliorated, thanks to tho efforts of the authorities concerned, as weJl as to the generous gifts of sympathisers both at home and abroad. The - Government is, therefore, confident that when the summer harvest is over there will no longer be any need to enlist assistance from abroad.
