RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL

The monthly meeting, of (he Klchhnnd Boro.ugb. Council was held on Tuesday, 10th inst., at 7.30 p.m. Present: The Mayor, Mr J. M. Croucher, in the chair, Crs Hunt, Sheat,Hart,Papps and Little. Leave of absence was granted Cr Coleman. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts were submitted, and duly passed for payment* as follows: — General account, £34 10s lid ; Water Supply account, £14 19s lid. Correspondence was received as follows:— From the Prime Minister, acknowledging the receipt of the Council's expression of sorrow and sympathy on the occasion of the death of the lace Right .Hon. E. J. ISeddon; from Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co;, in reference to the Henley Estate, and acknowledging receipt of plan duly signed and approved by the Council ; from the Waimea County, furnishing report of conference of Loual Bodies on the question of small bird destruction ; from the Clerk of the Licensing Committee in reference to licensing matters in Richmond : from the secretary to the Exhibition Committee, requesting the assistance of the Council in procuring exbibts of fruit, grain, etc., for the Exhibition.— Resolved that the Council will gladly afford any assistance in their power. The Mayor and Cr Sheat reported having experimented in the matter of trapping birds, and that a trap had been devised which was highly successful, a Large number of birds having been caught. It was resolved that ten of these traps be made, and that they be sold to residents at cost price, the matter being left in the hands of Cr Sheat. The sum of £ii was voted for the purchase of birds. It was resolved that the trees planted on the office ground be protected, and that afterwards the grass be fed off by sheep* and that any one desiring to put sheep on to the ground should apply to ihe Town Clerk. It was reported that certain young fellows, who were named, had been jumping their horses on the Recreation ground. Any Councilor seeing this sort of thing going on was requested to take action. It was resolved that it be notified that horses are not allowed in the Recreation Ground, and that the large gate be padlocked and a duplicate key furnished to the tenant of the ground. Cr Hart pointed out that the bathing shed at the beach, and the staging leading thereto wove both in need of repair, mainly IL nsth the wanton mischief of lads. -The q^es tion of tho Council's liability in the event of an accident occurring was discussed, It was understood that repairs would be effected before the bathiDg season comss round.
