Auckland, July 11. An exceptionally heavy gale blew all la9t night, but no damage is reported. The departure of the Rotoiti from Onehunga for the South has been postponed till to-morrow, owing to the stormy weather. Mr Olsen. second mate of the barque Anglo-Norman, was knocked down the hold this, morning by a cargo sling, and was apparently badly hurt. He was removed to the Hospital. Wellington, July 11. The Hinemoa, on the passage from Westport, searched for the derelict reported to be drifting about Cook Straits, but saw no trace. In the vicinity of Kapiti Island she found a portion of a ship's. boat, built of kauri, and also a portion oi a table on Mayhew Island. The wreckage had apparently not long been in the water, but there was nothing by which it could be identified. Dunedin, July 11. Mr Widdowson, S.M., dismissed the case in Which George Spiers was charged with betting from a kerdsene tin on the road adjoiniiig the Tahuna Park raCecouse. He held that the facts *did not conclusively establish that the place was used for betting. The decision will apply to a number of other similar cases.
