General Babingion's Inspection Volunteers. — At the special meeting of the City Council held last night, a letter from Colonel Wolfe was read asking for use of the Botanical Gardens on Saturday, 28th inst., for the inspection of the 'Volunteers by i General Babington. Nelson Accountants' Students' Society. — The lecture on the Metric System to be given by Mr Broad, 8. A., before the local Accountants' Society to-morrow ought to be well attended. Now, in all Colleges in England where scientific training js given, the Metric System is adopted. In work the most careful, most intricate, where high accuracy is this noble conception, the Metric System, is unanimously used. Why? Is it not obvious? Because it is simple, rational, and leads to a minimum of errors, even to the be* ginner. The lecture is in capable hands. Mr Broad will no doubt tie able 'to controvert all objections to the system, and thus the student's i mind must be left clearer andj;eadier to he l ? forward a movement, at once individually y of interest, and ultimately advantageous to the nation generally. Laborers' Union. — The following resolution was passed at last night's meeting of the Nelson Laborers' Industrial Union of Workers:— "That this meeting desires to express their regret at the death of Mr I.
