STEALING A YACHT.

BREAKING INTO THE K FACTORY. AN ARREST. On Saturday morning it was discovered xnat someone had broken into the factory of Messrs S, Kirkpatrick aud Co., Limited, well-known manufactories of jams, preserves, etc. It -was evident that the person had gained admission by breaking a window* at the back of the factory, ■ and it Was discovered that the keys of some of the doors had been taken, while some biscuits, pickles and candles were missed. The police were communicated with, and they also received advice from Motueka that a two-ton yacht, belonging to Mr Joseph Senior, had been stolen ; also that a baker's shop had been broken into, and cake and bread stolon, but there was, of course, nothing to connect these offences. Between one o'clock on Saturday afternoon and Monday morning Messrs Kirkpatrick's Factory was again entered, but no clue was left by the culprit. Last evening, however, Constable Kelly, who was investigating the cases, found that a yacht was anchored in the harbor, and he at once engaged an oil launch, and proceeded out to the vessel, where he found a young man named Dave Norris, about twenty years of age, lying down comfortably and eating biscuits, He observed some bottles of K pickles and other things in the yacht's cabin, and, jumping at a conclusion, charged the young man with stealing the yacht and breaking and entering Kirkpatrick's Factory, and also the baker's shop at Motueka. Norris, thus confronted, acknowledged his gui t, and it was found that ho also possessed two other keys, one of which ho said was of the baker's shop, and the other of a conservatory at Motueka. From his manner, it is thought that Dave Norris is affected mentally, but the constable, after arresting him. took him to tho Lock-Up, and he will be formally charged with the offences at the Police Court this morning.
