THE DUNEDIN TAILORESSES.

Dnnedin, February 14. In response to the resolutions of the Trades and Labor Council, the Labor Department is now inquiring into the alleged lock-out of the tailoresses in connection with the new award. The employers contend that if there is a lock-out it is on the part of the tailoresses: who decline to apply fov underrate permits a*, provided in the award. About 88 girls have been informed by the employers that it would be necessary for them to obtain permits. Of this number, 51 applied for and were granted permits, and ali, with the exception of ten, were re-engaged at an underrate of wages. Of the remaining 47 about a dozen have intimated that they are prepared to aocept employment offered in the North. About 35 are receiving lockout pay.
