The "Standard" states that Marquis Yamagata, during a conference ' fasting twelve days with Marshal Oyama, inspected important positions, and "reported unfavorably of outflanking, crushing, and achieving a signal victory. This possibly influenced the Mikado"in agreeing to the Portsmouth terms.
