I FLOWER SHOW AND SALE OP K WORK. ' __ — — . The flower show and sale of work in connection with the Presbyterian Church, was opened at the Druids' Hall yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a considerable gathering of : ladies. The Rev. J. H. MacKenzie, in formally opening the proceedings, acknowledged the cordial assistance which had been given by their " friends, and thanked the stallholders for the hearty manner in which they had worked to fill their stalls, and hoped they would be rewarded by heavy sales. Mr MacKenzie referred to the .very! excellent display of flowers, which, he said, was surprisi ingly good considering the recent . wet weather. iHeUhen declared the • proceedings opened. The stalls are \ placed on either side of the hall, and ; the centre is occupied with, a long table, upon which are displayed the i cut blossoms, etc. The exhibition i of bulbs is excellent, and called forth much commendation. jTbe following are the stallholders: —Sweet stall, Misses Laird, Cooksey, McArtney (2), and McDonald; plain work, Mrs CruicKshank and Mrs Porter; fancy work, Mrs Crawford, and Misses Salmond and Hood; Japanese stall, Mesdames Praser, Lyell and Taunt; produce stall, Mesdames , Teece and Hamilton, and Misses • Robertson and Lightfoot; flower stall, Mesdames Chisholm, Sunley and Green, and Miss Green; tea kiosk, Mesdames MacKenzie, Angus, Selby, and Misses Redworth, Brown (2) and Johnston (2) ; fair/ well, Misses Mary Hamilton and Elsie MacKenzie. There was a large attendance in the evening. A vary enjoyable musical programme was provided. Songs [ were contributed by Mesaames F. Hamilton and W. Rout, Miss Stevens, Messrs E. Richards and W. t H. Cleland (encored), while a couple of glees were sung by members of the choir. A pianoforte duet was ' played by Miss Stevens and Mr N. R. Williams, and a violin solo by I Miss Flett. The performers were warmly applauded. The audience were loud in their praises of the : beauty of the floral display. We were informed that though the " takings were not counted up, the 1 sales were considered satisfactory.
