THE COLONIST. Published Daily—Morning. Nelson, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1905. "NEW LIBERALS"

Id another column we publish a condensed report of speeches delivered by three of t\e "New Liberals," and it seems to us desirable that their statements thus made should not be hidden. At the jsame time, however, we must remind our readers that after the enquiry by the Auditor-General, Mr Fisher wrote a letter to the Premier , and handed a copy for publication in the Press, wherein he said: "Ist. I desire therefore to express to you and to your son"my deep and sincere regret at the unfortunate position in which?yon have been placed; and I wish to assure you that I freely and frankly accept the decision of the Auditor-General so far as the charge of a payment to Captain Seddon is concerned." The whole letter was published on the 6th mat. land three days lat9r Mr Fisher left i Wellington to visit Nelson. His letter was written, he said, after he had carefully weighed the evidence. If we are to accept the assurances contained in his written statements, his imputations merit the' gravest censure, and if we cannot accept them, what are we to accept? , Pressure oo our space prevents \y further reference in this issue, °\

It was also resolved, with the object of conserving the interests of the public, that the Librarian be authorised to exclude children of apparently under the age of 15 from the free reading room, readers being greatly an noyed by boys playing and making a disturbance in the room. Japanese goods have been specially imported fnr the sale of work. The Guild has been busy for some time past preparing for the sale of work, and the exhibition of early spring flowers should also prove an attraction. Admission will be sixpence in the afternoon and one shilling in the evening, and doubtless the efforts of the promoters will be rewarded by a large attendance. New Liberal Party's Tactics— The "Christchurch Press" (an Opposition journal) says in a recent issue: — " We are ardently desirous of seeing the present Government displaced by a more high-minded administration, but we wish to displace them by clean methods. There must be no eavesdropping among Government clerks, no prying into ; the wreaths ou dead men's graves, no divulging of 'typical telegrams' by confidential servants of the State. Above all, we venture to assert there must be no re-opening of the domestic sorrows of political opponents — no flourishing death certificates of their children before excited audiences at'political meetings. Reforms which can only be brought about by such questionable means as these will hardly be worth the name." The new McCormieb Big 4 Giass Mower is a powerful machine.
