THE COMING SHOW.];; " The General Committee met on Saturday evening at Richmond, when there were present: — Messrs William Coleman (President), Higgins, N. Win, Wadsworth, Gaukrodger, Geo. E. Ohisnall, Hagen, Godfrey Best, Lankow, J. M. Croucher, W. T. Bond, W. D. Harkness, May, K. T. Sadd, J. Ching, Talbot, Bartlett, George Macmahon, Heath, Hayes Croucher, John Best, and G W. Best. The minutes were confirmed. An apology was received for the unvoidable absence of Mr James Hunt. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Noble Win, that Mr Joseph Thorn, of Dovedale, be elected a member of the Association. The Sub-Committee appointed at the last meeting regarding conducting experimental growing of crops with a view to test manures most suitable^to the soil, reported in favor of such an experiment being undertaken. Mr W. D. Harkness, one of the Committee, stated Mr F. W. Smith, at Hope, had a suitable piece of land near the Hope railway station, which bad been twice ploughed, and which Mr Smith was willing to let the Associatioh have for the purpose of expermenting on the condition that he did not lose anything as regards the return of crop grown. Whatever return Mr Smith got from the rest of his land, he would expect an equal return for the land used by the Association, he neither wanted to make nor to lose. Resolved to adopt the Sub-Com-mittee's report. Mr F. W. Smith said he had two piece of land. One more than 30 acres, and the other about six acres, and the Aescciation could have which they liked. After his experience of using superphosphate, he believed by the proper use cf manures the crops on the Waimea plains could be increased by five bushels per acre, which meant money to the district. He considered properly conducted experiments would prove highly valuable to the district. Whatever was going to be done this year would have to be done quickly, as ho did not want to lose the season. Resolved, that the Secretary write to the Agricultural Department, asking for full and quick information as to how the experiment will be conducted. Mr Robert Staples forwarded one guinea, and Mr Thomas Hunt two guineas towards prizes at the coming Show. Both gifts were received witia thanks. Resolved, that Messrs May, G. E.
