THE TARIFF COMMISSION.

Received May 19, 1.2 a.m. Sydney, May 18,

Before the Tariff Commission a candle manufacturer gave evidence that if the name of a factory was put on a packet no wholesale firm would buy. This was on account of prejudice against any colonial-made article. He was afraid that a good many wholesale and retail people liked to sell goods as imported when they were not. He gave an instance in Victoria of one make of candles being sold under nineteen different brands.
