Word wsa received by the Akaroa police that a murderous .assault had been committed at Gough's Bay by a man named Sunckell on his wife, who ; wa_il, liVing apart, and his married daughter, Mrs *W. f J. Lleivre. Et appears that Sunckell, taking advantage of Mr Lleivre's absenec, went to the house at about ten 3'clock this morning, and on gaining admission, knocked the women about with a heavy riding whip, seriously injuring Mrs Sunckell.
