THE ALEXA TOWED OFF

Wanganui, March 1. The s.b. Hiraitangi, which arrived this morning from Nelson, reports that she towed the barquentiae Alexa off Cape Farewell Spit last I night. The vessel just struck the I edge of the Spit, and is none the worse for the grounding. [The barquentine Alexa, which grounded on Cape Farewell Spit, is an iron vessel of 500 tons, and she was purchased by Messrs Hattrick and Co., of Wanganui, for the intercolonial trade. She met with a mishap 2000 miles from Adelaide; breaking her rudder head, and put into Adelaide for repairs. Captain White, late of the s.s. St. Kilda, who went home to bring the vessel cut, is in charge.]
