THE IRISH QUESTION.

London, January 5 The Right Hon. R. B. Haldane, M.P., repying to a correspondent, says the fiscal question must take precedence of the Irish Home Rule question. He recognises'the Government's progressive Irish policy, and hopes perhaps later on to see nonparty laws and gradual devolution of Ireland. This would keep confidence here. It would be unwise to revive Mr Gladstone's bills or anything resembling them. Received Jan. 7, 1.12 a.m, London, January 6 Mr John Redmond, speaking at Waterford, said the Nationalists were the only united party, and would not postpone for an hour their demand for Home Rule. The majority of the Government was favorable to a satisfactory settlement of the Irish uni-versity-question, but if they recoiled, owing to Ulster feeling, they would be struck.
