THE COOGEE COLLISION.

Melbourne, January 6. At the enquiry into the collisior between the steamer Coogee and th< Italian ship Fortunato Figari neai Cape Liptrap, the captain of the ship stated that the chief officer oi the Coogee was amongst those whe jumped aboard the ship. Witness assisted to get the boats out to go tc the assistance of the Coogee. Witness considered the Coogee was travelling too fast. She did no! sound her whistle. The witness said that one or two officers and several oi the crew and A number of the passengers of the Coogee jumped aboard his vessel when the collision occurred. Received Jan. 7, 1.17 a.m. Owen, the seaman on watch on the bridge of the Coogee testified to hearing the foghorn on the ship. He called out, and the whistle was blown. The captain called out ' ' Stop ship." The collision occurred almost lat the same instant. He saw the first mate attending to the boats. The only other time the. whistle was blown was half an hoilr before the collision.
