He formerly was Commissioner of Crown Lands and Secretary to the Provincial Council of Tara- j naki ; also Secretary to the late Sir George Grey, in Auckland, during : the eighties, and Foreign Adviser to i the Tongan Government. Deceased i was brother to Mr George Whit- 1 combe, of Messrs Whitcombe & 1 Tombs, and Mr F. S. Whitcombe, 1 the Railway Traffic Manager at Wan- < ganui. (
